Please join the Syracuse University Alumni Club of CNY for a spectacular weekend at Syracuse University’s Minnowbrook Conference Center, located on picturesque Blue Mountain Lake in the Adirondack Mountains (www.minnowbrook.org).
This year’s speaker, Catherine Bertini, is a Professor at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. Her
leadership of the UN World Food Programme transformed it into the world’s largest humanitarian organization. Ms.
Bertini was named the 2003 World Food Prize Laureate for her leadership at WFP in ending famine and decreasing
hunger. Later, Ms. Bertini served as the Under Secretary General for Management and as UN Security Coordinator.
Secretary General Kofi Annan appointed her as his Humanitarian Envoy to the Horn of Africa and to Gaza and the West
Bank. She serves as a member of the Board of International Food and Agricultural Development, which advises USAID.
Previously, she served as the Assistant Secretary of Food and Consumer services at the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. In
2012, she served as a member of the Accountability Review Board on Benghazi. Currently she is senior fellow at the
Chicago Council of Global Affairs where she co-chairs the Global Agricultural Development Initiative. She serves as a
board member of the Stuart Family Foundation, a juror of the Hilton Foundation Humanitarian Prize, and on the Board of
Directors of the Tupperware Brands Corporation. For two years, she was the Senior Fellow of Agricultural Development at
the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Our entertainment for Saturday evening will be Photographer Dan Ruscitto, who will present a slide show titled “Picturing
Minnowbrook is a unique 28-acre mountain retreat owned and operated by Syracuse University that was designed in the lavish, grand-lodge Adirondack Great Camp style of the 19th century. Scheduled free time will provide you the opportunity to explore Minnowbrook and the surrounding area.
The Adirondack Museum (www.adkmuseum.org) and the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts (www.adirondackarts.org) are both located nearby in the village of Blue Mountain Lake. The Wild Center, the Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks, is located approximately 30 miles away in Tupper Lake
(www.wildcenter.org). Onsite recreation includes: badminton, basketball, billiards, board games, boating, canoeing, cards, a well-equipped exercise room, foosball, hiking to Castle Rock, horseshoes, ping pong, table shuffleboard, swimming, tennis (bring your racquet), and volleyball. Golf courses are located at Indian Lake, Inlet, and Thendara.
Cost is $465 single room occupancy and $405/person in a double room. Cost includes a superb program, wonderfully rustic Adirondack lodging, and six delicious gourmet meals. Refreshments are always available. Minnowbrook is only 3 hours from Syracuse! We gather on Friday afternoon before dinner and the weekend ends after lunch on Sunday.
